COSP Side Event: Climate and crisis, Disability-inclusive resilience in cities

This event is now complete and a recording can be found at the bottom of this page.

Persons with disabilities among the most affected by climate and crisis - inclusive solutions that bridge innovative thinking are needed.

About this event

This is a digital side event of COSP15 (the 15th session of the Conference of States Parties to the CRPD)

Join Global Disability Innovation Hub (GDI Hub) and panellists World Blind Union, National Institute of Urban Affairs (India) and RISE to explore the latest work on disability-inclusive resilience in cities.

The impacts of climate and crises are continuing to converge in cities with evidence showing persons with disabilities among the most affected. Rapidly changing environments and informal settlements in cities require inclusive solutions that bridge innovative thinking across humanitarian responses and sustainable urban development – to build long-term resilience.

Comprehensive inclusive design and planning approaches, co-designed with persons with disabilities are vital. Speakers will share learnings from their research, programmes and advocacy work in countries including; Indonesia, Kenya, Sierra Leone, India and Mongolia showcasing opportunities and methods to integrate disability-inclusive urban development and design with sustainability and resilience to support implementation of the UNCRPD.

The session will be an opportunity to hear more from GDI Hub's UK aid funded AT2030 inclusive infrastructure sub-programme and beyond, as the panel explore regional priorities and global opportunities for disability-inclusive, resilient cities now and into the future.
