SPIRAL Workshop on Sensing, Feeling, Touching, and Making

Interested in creating new art with Artist Caroline Wright and researchers from UCL East? Caroline is collaborating with researchers at UCL and Global Disability Innovation Hub to explore innovative ways to bring new stimulating sensory experiences to people through technology.

We invite you to join us at this workshop and explore unusual textures and materials like chainmail, different types of textiles, 3D printing pens, even sounds and imagine how all of these can be combined with arts and crafts materials like playdoh, moulding clay, and even slime! to create new and interesting art works.

This workshop is supported by Trellis: Public Art, a programme of knowledge exchange between researchers and artists, part of the wider vision for UCL Public Art and Community Engagement to create opportunities for collaboration between artists, researchers and communities based around the future UCL East campus.

At the workshop you’ll:

  • Use the 2D and 3D materials to explore different themes
  • Talk about the experience of participating with the workshop facilitators
  • Learn about the wider research project

When is the workshop:

We are planning an online workshop to be conducted via Zoom. Prior to the workshop, we would like to send you a package with materials that you’ll need to participate. Please use the sign-up form to register your interest in participating in the workshop and we will get in touch with you soon to confirm your participation and address to send the workshop materials.

What will happen:

At the workshop, you'll explore and respond creatively to a variety of different and unusual objects and themes that are presented by Caroline and the researchers. You will be able to select your own object and/or theme and use the materials provided to create your own responses. There will be people on hand throughout to assist and to answer any questions you may have. To complete the workshop, one of the team will talk to you about your experience and give you some more information about the project.

What the workshop includes:

Each workshop is free and will last for approx. 45 minutes. A variety of materials will be sent to you for use for example, 3D pens, paper, clay, wool, etc. All materials will be sanitised before being sent to you.
